The day of the Miracle on the Hudson – level 2
15-02-2009
On January 15, 2009, a big plane took off from an airport in New York.
Minutes after taking off, the plane was hit by a group of big birds. After the hit, both engines lost power because the geese went into them.
The pilots had to think quickly about the best solution. They quickly understood that returning to the airport was not possible. So, they decided to land the plane on the Hudson River.
The pilots were able to successfully land on water. All 155 passengers and crew members were safe and could evacuate.
This event became known as the Miracle on the Hudson.
Difficult words: solution (the correct answer), event (a moment when something important happens), miracle (an extremely lucky moment).
What measures have been implemented since then to help prevent similar types of incidents from occurring?
