The day the Cold War ended – level 1
26-12-1991
The Cold War is between the United States and the Soviet Union. These countries are enemies. The Cold War starts in 1947. The name of the war is the Cold War because there is no real war between the two countries.
The war is ideological. The United States likes capitalism and democracy. The Soviet Union likes communism.
Both countries want to control the world. Their conflict divides the world into two parts. Some countries help the United States. Other countries help the Soviet Union.
The Cold War ends on December 26, 1991. It is the day when the Soviet Union ends and changes into many new countries.
Difficult words: enemy (a person who wants to fight you), ideological (about ideas), divide (to create parts from one thing).
What were the main differences in ideology between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War?
