The day Osama bin Laden died – level 2
02-05-2011
Osama bin Laden was born in Saudi Arabia into a rich family. He attended good schools. In the 1980s, he went to Afghanistan where he joined the Muslims who were fighting the Russians.
When American soldiers were sent to Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War, bin Laden was strongly against it. He declared war against the United States. A series of terrorist attacks followed.
Americans tried to catch bin Laden, but they weren’t successful for many years.
In 2010, Americans got information that bin Laden was hiding in one of the houses in Pakistan. The house was very well guarded. American soldiers prepared the attack for many weeks.
On May 2, 2011, specially trained American soldiers attacked the house. Osama bin Laden was killed in the attack.
Difficult words: attend (to go to), declare (to say officially), guarded (protected by guards).
What other terrorist attacks are blamed on Osama bin Laden?
