The Battle of Gaugamela was fought on October 1, 331 BC. Gaugamela is in today’s Iraq. The battle was a confrontation between the army of Alexander the Great and the Persian army.
The Persian army had more soldiers but Alexander won because he used better tactics.
After the Battle of Gaugamela, Alexander took control over the Persian Empire. Alexander’s empire became one of the largest empires in history.
The battle showed Alexander’s brilliant military skills and people started to call him “Alexander the Great.”
