The day the Guinness Book of Records was published – level 2

27-08-1955

The first Guinness Book of Records was published in Great Britain on August 27, 1955.

It had 198 pages with various records, including the tallest man, the heaviest twins, the longest-running television show, and the highest mountain.

One of the most popular sections of the book was the world sports records, which included records for the fastest mile, the highest jump, and the longest distance swum underwater.

The book also included the records of the first person to climb Mount Everest and the first person to swim the English Channel.

The Guinness Book of Records was a big success. All 50,000 copies were sold out within just a few weeks. The book became an international hit and it is published every year with new and updated records.

Difficult words: including (having inside), include (to have inside), sold out (if something is sold out, there is nothing left to sell).

What are some of the world records included in the Guinness Book of Records today?
